I finished my work week at Student Link and then went to Pandora’s Box for more cat food and litter. Came home to find Leigh finishing the painting for this year, specifically the shingles on the garage. My afternoon student cancelled his tutoring session and let me know that a freshman at the high school had committed suicide. That is just so unbelievably tragic. I didn’t know the student, but I do know a number of his friends. Adolescence is so hard for a lot of people. I finished reading “The Forgotten Garden” and I really enjoyed it. I hope to start another of Kate Morton’s books tonight. Now it is time to call it a day.

  1. Oh, Daphne. That’s terrible.

Are some of his friends/acquaintences also kids you tutor? Losing someone like this is so tough. I don’t know what personal experience you may have with life after this kind of death but don’t be surprised if they’re shaken up for a while even if they didn’t know him all that well.

At any rate everyone connected to this tragedy is weighing heavily on my thoughts today. I hope they all find peace with the situation.

    • Yes, it is a real tragedy. I didn’t know him, but I do know (and tutor) several of his friends. There is now a Facebook page for him called Dear Palmer, and reading all the letters just brings tears. He obviously was well liked and well loved. It is all so hard to fathom. And yes, you are right that all the students will be shaken for awhile. We have a counselor group which swings into action at any island crisis and they have been blanketing all three of our schools since it happened. The funeral will be Tuesday. And yes, it weighs heavily on our whole island. I can’t help but think that if there hadn’t been a gun in the house he might still be with us, but don’t get me started on that topic! I appreciate your thoughts and your concern. Adolescents are so vulnerable!
