I have had a lovely quiet Saturday catching up on a lot of things which I just ignored or neglected over the past two weeks as I wrote the first draft of my third novel during NaNoWriMo. I also spent a good part of the morning looking at couches on line and I finally picked one that I hope will work well. It has a high back, which I wanted, and it is red, which I also wanted. I found out that IKEA doesn’t deliver to the island, so they lost out, but the couch I found at Macy’s is no doubt much better quality and it was also on sale. It will take 4-6 weeks to get it since I picked a special order fabric (no surprises there). It will be my holiday present to me and I hope it holds up as well as the one it is replacing–a cheap IKEA couch which is over 10 years old. Of course for most of those 10 years the couch was only used by the dogs, but still. Macy’s was also much easier to deal with and there was no long phone wait, so it was a most pleasant experience and the best part of all is that I didn’t have to leave the island!! After that I spent the afternoon reading a novel and then writing its review. I haven’t done any reviews yet this month so it was nice to get back into the swing of things. I also made comments on my fellow student’s submissions for the week in my Children’s Writing class. I still have this week’s assignment to do, but that will happen tomorrow along with, I hope, a poem for the Sunday Whirl. But I’ve had enough for today and my very tired muscles need the sauna and hot tub.

a quiet Saturday
catching up on
neglected chores
no more excuses

  1. I love IKEA prices and designs, but I have to admit that their furniture isn’t necessarily the sturdiest stuff in the world. Will you call me a dork if I admit that I kind of like assembling their stuff as well? 😀

I can’t wait to see pictures of your new couch. It’s awesome that you chose such a bold colour. Is it covered in cloth? Vinyl? Something else? Will you be putting a cover on it, or will you leave it as is? I know some people swear couches last longer with a cover on them, but I’ve never understood how that’s supposed to work.

  2. I too love IKEA prices and designs, and I have some great dressers that work very well indeed. And I used to love assembling it also–it gets harder for me each year. And my IKEA couches have served well for 13 years and they will serve the dogs for a number of years yet, I’m sure.

My new couch is bold as is my home–I can’t handle neutrals. It is fabric–don’t do leather and don’t like vinyl. I’ll probably throw a quilt on it just because with all the pets it is much easier to wash than have the couch cleaned, but I agree that there is little point in covering up something you like. I tend to enjoy it new, and then do as I recently did with my IKEA couches, cover them when the new becomes really old. And I promise I will post photos when I finally get it (4-6 weeks!). Thanks for your comments–they are always appreciated!
