I began the day with my writing but couldn’t quite finish my chapter because I had a doctor’s appointment at 10:15. I just managed to get all my fur friends fed and get dressed as I didn’t know I would have the appointment until I called at 9:05. My legs, ankles, and feet have been swelling over the past several days which made me really worried. Thankfully another doctor in my doctor’s office was able to see me and she assured me it wasn’t my heart. She took blood for a lot of tests, but her guess at this point is that all the exercise I’ve been doing is the cause. I had varicose vein surgery on both legs years and years ago (as in 1988 and 1989), which means I have fewer veins to return stuff. Apparently some exercise is good and increases the return flow, but too much is bad and guess what, that’s what I did. The doctor wants me to cut back, wear compression socks, elevate my lower legs, and meanwhile await the results of today’s blood draw. And the knees are inflamed as well. So Oliver won’t be getting his walks until this gets under control and if I don’t feel considerably better tomorrow, I’ll be cancelling my bridge class on Wednesday as the doctor also said that standing was really bad. Anyway as one of my internet friends said, everything in moderation. Today I only have 1 active minute as I’ve barely been able to stagger around. I do have 3709 steps and my doctor said no more than 5000. I’m not going to worry about the stats until I’m out of pain. Meanwhile, once I got back from the doctor’s I did finish my chapter so now I have 3 chapters and 9519 words. I have no idea how much I’ll be able to write on Tues, Wed., and Thurs., so I really wanted to get ahead. I hate being behind. After that I went and had tea with a new friend at the Vashon Tea Shop, and then stopped at the pharmacy for a pair of compression socks. I have much nicer ones coming from Amazon, but I figured I should at least get one plain white pair so I could start wearing them right away. I’ve put a foot stool under my puzzle table so I can still work my puzzle but have my feet up. Hopefully things will settle down soon. I’m definitely being good. Of course, if I’d been more sensible earlier, I wouldn’t be in this mess, but some people are hard to convince.

  1. I had to deal with those socks …getting them on and off for my MIL when she had knee surgery years ago. So much relief when they come off… I think though for a while she had to wear them 24/7. Be well! Hugs, ~Jules

  2. I hope the socks help.

This post made me wish we lived in the same neighbourhood. I’d take Oliver for a walk in a heartbeat for you if we did. 🙂

  3. Thanks, Jules. I’m only wearing mine during the day. Not sure how much progress I’ve made, but at the moment my pain is less, so I’m very grateful! 🙂

  4. Thanks, Lydia, and I wish we lived in the same neighbourhood for a lot of reasons. I’m glad that I have a fenced yard for my dogs so walking isn’t required, but Oliver so enjoys the new adventure and I enjoy our special time so hopefully this is just a brief break. I’m sure Oliver appreciates your offer even if he’s too far away. 🙂
