It felt really weird not to go to Camp NaNoWriMo first thing today.  I was a bit disoriented, but then decided to return to the quilt I had started in June.  I added a fox to it and it is definitely the most intricate appliqué I have done so far.  Then I worked on my puzzle and read more of a review book.  I managed to get caught up on a number of household chores as well.

I finished the first draft of my fifth novel at CampNaNoWriMo today.  It is both exciting and bittersweet.  I’ll miss CampNaNoWriMo!  But November and NaNoWriMo will be here soon, and honestly, I couldn’t keep up the pace of writing nearly 4000 words a day for much longer.  I have enjoyed both camp sessions, though and I think three times a year is do-able, at least this year.  My word count ended up at 78,881 words, and I’ve printed it all out, punched holes in the 206 pages, and put it all in a binder.  I shall let it sit for a bit before I begin revisions.  I did some chores and started a new review book.  I got a few more pieces into my puzzle, which isn’t progressing very fast, but then, I’m not in a race.

Today’s chapter at CampNaNoWriMo turned out to be my penultimate chapter.  I’ll finish the first draft of this novel tomorrow.  It feels good.  My current word count is 73,803 words, which makes this my longest novel to date.  After writing my chapter, I did some household chores, including picking up mounds of dog poop.  It has been so hot lately and so many things have happened that I haven’t felt like doing that chore.  But the weather has turned much cooler, and so I got caught up on that chore.  I also read another review novel and wrote its review, and I put a few more pieces into my puzzle.  It has been a very nice, quiet day.

Thanks to Camp NaNoWriMo, I am nearing the end of the first draft of my novel.  I now have 69,361 words.  I have one chapter, possibly two remaining so I’ll finish this weekend.  After my time at Camp I headed out to help a friend assemble a cabinet for her bathroom.  Then I had an appointment with my osteopath after which I came home and relaxed.  I wrote a book review for the novel I finished yesterday and then started another novel.  It has been a long and at time difficult week and I’m really looking forward to the fact that I have nothing on the calendar until Tuesday afternoon.

I have had a lovely day.  I, of course, started out at Camp NaNoWriMo, and my word count is now 65,149 words.  I think I have two chapters left, but it could turn into three.  My characters will let me know.  And then I caught up on some chores around the house that I’d been putting off, including running a bunch of things to Granny’s Attic, our island thrift shop.  My garage looks much better!  I worked on my puzzle, which is going very slowly, but then I’m not in any hurry.  I also finished reading a review novel and I’ll write its review tomorrow, I hope.

I had a good morning at CampNaNoWriMo and I now have 60,779 words.  I’m nearing the end, which I expect will be at about 72,000 words.  I signed the first copies of my fourth novel, which arrived yesterday, and gave them away at my bridge class.  I was most gratified when one friend said, “Well, I know what I’m doing tonight!”  That really made me feel good.  My hot tub has problems so I spent some time on the phone with my tech both in the morning and again in the afternoon.  He was just here yesterday, and he agrees that it was nothing that either he or I did.  He thinks he knows what the problem is, but wants to do more checking and he’ll call me tomorrow.  Lately, it has been just one thing after another, but I am concentrating on all the positive around me and trying not to get bummed by the way the universe is testing me.

I had a very early start to my day when my hot tub tech called to say that he’d made an earlier ferry.  I put my writing on hold and raced through the shower and dressed.  Drew got here at 8AM.  Then Paco and his guys were here by 8:30 and they have now finished all the yard clean-up and everything looks so nice.  Paco was even willing to take some of my pots which I didn’t want over to a friend’s as she really liked them.  They were a nice housewarming present for her in her new home.  I was able to finish my words and my total is now 56,594 words.  Then I spent time with my new laptop trying to get it all set up.  I do like it a lot.  I was discouraged that all the quicken files I’d saved as backups wouldn’t install, so I had to download everything again from my bank and now I’m entering all the notes.  It’s going to take awhile.  On the other hand, the guy who is working on my dead computer told me this morning that he has hopes for fixing it, and at the very least he should be able to recover my data from my hard drive.  I felt better after he said that and I certainly hope it proves to be the case.  I tutored my summer Latin student today and it was fun to read another story in Latin and discuss ancient history.  I’m just exhausted after all the various crises, and I need my sauna and hot tub.  I think I have another early morning tomorrow with my sprinkler guy who is going to make some modifications to my system in a few places where he can improve the design without a lot of problems.  He told me several weeks ago that he’d be back on the 16th and I’ve called to ask him to confirm that as I certainly don’t want to be up and dressed at 8 without a reason.

I am truly grateful for my iPad, and I don’t know where I would have been without it this weekend, after my computer died, but I will be glad to have a new laptop tomorrow. And I also hope to find out if there is any hope for my dead computer, at least to retrieve the stuff that was on it. Meanwhile, my word count from Camp NaNoWriMo is now 49,006 words! I also worked a bit on my puzzle and then read a book and wrote its review. It has been a lovely quiet Sunday.

The day started out well with a good session at Camp NaNoWriMo where my word total is now 40,314 words.  And I had a nice session with my counselor.  After that, things got bad.  Poosa had to go to the vet’s for x-rays and blood and it turns out that once again she is full of gravel.  We have no idea why she is eating it, but it seems it is either a flare up of her IBS or else lymphoma and she is going to need another ultrasound soon.  Meanwhile she is on two different meds and I also have to give her psyllium.  Lots of fun in store.  If that weren’t enough, my computer has died.  My son and I are texting to try different things but so far nothing.  I’m glad i have my iPad and I suspect I’ll be writing my words on it tomorrow.  I’ve just purchased word for the iPad and hopefully that will work.  And it is hot as well, so lots of fun here.

I wrote for longer than usual this morning at Camp NaNoWriMo, which had me running a bit behind, but I was able to ask my friend who cleans for me to come an hour later.  That worked fine for her, so I was ready by the time she came.  Meanwhile, my word count is 36,858 words!  I picked up my buyer’s club order from Minglement, and so my freezers are now all stocked up with edamame and vegan Boca nuggets, so I’m good for another eight weeks or so.  After that I put away the Robin Hood puzzle I finished yesterday and started one with unicorns called the Magical Unicorn Forest.  It is my first 1500 piece puzzle and I have the border completed.  I also finished a great fantasy novel and wrote its review.  Time to call it a day.  Today didn’t get as hot as it could have but we’re now heading into the 90’s for the next week and we are under a heat wave warning beginning on Saturday.  I don’t like the heat at all, but I do realize that I’m lucky to have a heat pump which serves as an air-conditioner as well as a furnace, doing it all in an environmentally friendly way.  Many if not most folks in the Pacific Northwest don’t have air-conditioning since we usually don’t need it, but I suspect global warming is changing that.
